T540 recovery media

2020-08-20, 21:30 PM

I've been sent three recovery media for my laptop and all of them have been wrong.  It is very frustrating that the tech team can't help with it.  I am a T540P and never changed any hardware on the laptop.  Is there anyone who can help on to get the correct recovery media ?

"all of them have been wrong"

You mean for the wrong laptop, or not working, or ???  Additional detail might help others help you.

The laptop is suppose to have Win8 Pro. 1- First time I was sent win7.1 and that doesn't install. 2- Second time I was sent win 8 (not pro) and it keeps asking me for window activation key. I called tech support and they guy told me that the incorrect recovery media was sent as it should've been win8 pro. He confirmed that the correct media will be sent. 3- Today I got the same win 7.1 CD's again! I called the tech support and they there is nothing they can do! They can't send me win8 pro recovery and they cannot also give me windows activation key! I can't use the laptop!! This is just crazy.

The download doesn't require a key.  The installation process shouldn't either - as long as it's the same version - pro or non-pro - that was originally on the machine.

I tried the install and it doesn't even start - i get error message "Setup has failed to determine supported install choices".  All i need is a recovery media or the windows key to get me started but it seems an impossible task :(

You burned a dvd from the iso and convinced the laptop to boot it by pressing f10 or f12 or by telling the bios to boot from it?

You really want to reinstall win8?

the licence (or key) is encrypted in your bios and you probably are allowed to use win10 with it.

So best possibility is to download a win10 iso, burn it to dvd (or usb-stick) and boot from it to install win10 pro.

I've tried everything - win 8/10. I can't upgrade and I can't do a new install because I delete the partition and create a new one. Error message "Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of GPT partition style." Bottom line I've stuck! No key and can't install a new version either!
