Re: T540p/T440p+UltraDock+external display issues

For applying the windows firmware patch you have to use the intel graphics driver! https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71267#c118 gave me the right hint!

There you can also see that the linux guys are working on a solution around the original problem caused by lenovo.

So I will kill win7 now and return to linux. And in about 3 years (next notebook ;-) I will look precisly how lenovo supports applying firmware patches without the need of a specific os!

Re: T540p/T440p+UltraDock+external display issues

2014-03-05, 15:19 PM

We bought three T440p with Pro Docks and encountered the same problem. Every few minutes, the laptop undocks from the docking station, disconnecting from external monitor and the connected usb devices. Updating the dock firmware did not solve the problem. From the descriptions in this thread, it seems like the faulty 45N0366 AC adapters are the problem, which came with the laptop. The ones that came with the docking station are unusable for us because they only have 65 Watts, even though they were listed as recommended accessories for the laptops.

We contacted the retailer (Germany) who told us to call the standard Thinkpad support hotline for Germany. There, I reached someone who had problems with both english and german language and told me under really strong background noise to write an email to support_de@uk.ibm.com, from which I have not received an answer for a few days.

Also, I contacted fragen_de@lenovo.com, which was mentioned on the german Lenovo support website. They responded by advising me to call the same phone number mentioned earlier because they cannot help me with the problem.

My question is, why is it so difficult to replace three faulty AC adapters? For me this seems to turn into an international rescue mission because the german retailer and the german Lenovo support team both cannot perform this simple replacement.

I also have the problem with the power supply as I get the flickering without the dockingstation.

So I called Servion yesterday and they told me, that they are not allowed to exchange the power supply as there exists (officially) only one problem with the docking station.
Then they told me that they had 70-80 customers calling with the same (power supply) problem and nobody wanted to send them their laptop for testing - so i volunteered to send them mine to get the second problem acknowledged by Lenovo.

So I am looking forward to get a working laptop/power supply returned and keep you updated.

hi StridaHD,

thanks for your help!

although there is another option to get a 45N0362 ac adapter from lenovo. yesterday I filled out a service request here where I explicitely requested a 45N0362 ac adapter and today the UPS man arrived with it :)

I know that procedure and i tried that and got another "bad" power supply.
This is kind of playing the lottery.

If you are interested - the reason is in the support structure:

The 1st level support (those you reach first by the hotline/website working with scripts shown in their system) have recognized that sometimes(!) the problem can be solved by exchanging the power supply, BUT they do not know that it correlates to specific models and they do not know that it is independent from the dockingstation. Therefore they can offer an exchange, BUT can not assure that you get the properly working power supply (like in my case).
The 2nd (or higher) level support like Servion (real technicians) are bound to the recognized bugs and how to treat them. Therefore they are not allowed to exchange the power supply until the two problems recognized here in the forum are sorted out properly by Lenovo and their partners.

Meanwhile my laptop has arrived at Servion and I will give them a call these days if I don't here from them first.

Also for those interested and have this problem, i have opened a case by phone (local Lenovo support) and asked them where i could send an e-mail for additional info. I have created and sent this document to them. Thanks to the contributors on this forum for all relevant information needed. They have now ordered the specific part, since they don´t have it in stock over here. If it has arrived by the parts-department an engineer will contact me to replace it at location.

Will keep you posted....

Regards, jan

Re: T540p/T440p+UltraDock+external display issues

Houtsma,

I thought this thread was about dropping display when docked?  The official fix is the firmware update.

We have seperate issues / discussion on AC adapters on T540/W540 and I believe that is really about the Input port on those units, although we are checking the two different 135 AC (Liteon and delta ) being discussed.

I appreciate everyones help to not mix these issues amongst the various threads as it will be harder for infrequent users to understand what is going on.  (For me too)

Thanks

Mark

Mark,

the dropping of display can be caused by the firmware bug AND/OR a faulty power supply.

For me the problem was entirely solved by updating the firmware and replacing the FRU 45N0366 Power-Supply with the 45N0362.

Just doing the firmware upgrade or changing the supply didn't solve it. (when I connect a 45N0366 to the updated dock then the screens start to drop again)

My mistake Mark. I meant to post this in the other topic but was in a hurry. But you can remove this post anyhow.

Re: T540p/T440p+UltraDock+external display issues

I've also problem with my recently purchased (Feb 2014) Thinkpad T440 with Thinkpad Ultra dock

.I've raised a ticket and today I'd to follow some instructions on http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=HT081248. Unfortunately no result I'd the same result as user TPL440Linux page 18 on this thread.

1. Using windows 8.1

2.  logged on as admin

3. all applications were closed

4. double click the downloaded file:  fwdphb01.exe

5. Message of the Prius Tool: "Please connect at least one monitor on the docking and then continue"

(first the external monitor was connected via DVI, later I tried a VGA cable)

6. pressed ok

7. Message of the Prius Tool: "Faild to find Synaptics MST DP hub IC"

8. pressed ok

9. update failed...

If any solution please let me know. If my tickets is resolved I'll definately post and share with you.
