Re: T540p/T440p+UltraDock+external display issues

2016-06-15, 5:11 AM

Hello I'm using a T460s ultra dock type 40A2.

It was really hard to apply the firmware update since my OS is Linux, but finally I was able to update to the latest firmare.

Unfortunately, the issue is still there after some hours of work the screen become blank!

I'm using just 1 external monitor over DP.

Please help me!

Just as a follow-up: I fully resolved my problem by swtichting from HDMI to Display Port. My setup: 2 external screens, the HDMI-connected one had the problem with turning off occasionally. The other one is still connected via DVI and has no issues.

Hi dmarrazzo,

I can confirm your issues... I have the same hardware as you, brandnew T460s and an ultra dock 40A2. I am running a Samsung UHD U28D590 monitor with 4k/60Hz at the DisplayPort of the ultra dock (with expensive 4k cable!), along with the laptop monitor same time (dual monitor setup). The Samsung monitor was running on another PC before for around a year without any issues, so I am sure the Samsung hardware is fine. Connected to the DP of my ultra dock, the Samsung turns off once in a while (I'd say about every other 10 minutes) and comes back after a second. The internal laptop display does not show any effects at that time. I updated the ultra dock firmware to version 2.30.000 , but it still does it...

Cheers!

Fugesch

Hi All,

I am using T560 (Type 20FHCTO1WW) with Ultradock

I have updated to Ultradock firmware V 2.33.000 and all drivers on laptop updated but still have the issue with screens dropping inputs intermittently through the day.

Log report from firmware update stands:

Version: 2.33.000
Update result: 16
Error description: Your device has already got the same Firmware version 2.33.000 installed

Swapped Dport cables and screens same issue.

any help welcome

Hello, I have a Thinkpad T460s and a Ultradock 170Watt, have the same issues. I tried everything FW-update, all kind of Graphiccard-Drivers.

I solved this issue working on the monitor side.

It seems that the monitor (DELL) supports different DP protocols: switching it on the latest version 1.2 (I'm not sure about the number), the problem is solved!

How you switched the protocol.

Your problem sounds similar to mine.

I have a T460 Thinkpad on a Lenovo Pro Dock 90w with LG 29UM68-P ultrawide monitor running at 2560x1080.  My monitor has built in speakers (using Intel Display Audio drivers), so my DisplayPort cable is carrying both audio & video.

I have two symptoms of signal loss:  audio cuts out intermittently when playing music & the screen will periodically go black with a "no signal" message.  The video signal restores itself after about 3-4 seconds.

I have already tried updating the ThinkPad's BIOS to the latest version, updating Intel graphics drivers to latest version, as well as the Pro Dock 90w firmware (to version 2.33.000).  I also swapped out my DisplayPort 1.1 cable for a DisplayPort 1.2 cable.

The monitor+speakers work beautifully when connected to a Dell laptop+docking station, so I know the problem is not with the monitor.

It seems people have had similar issues for years.  This is really impacting my work.  Has anyone found an aftermarket port replicator that has worked well for them?

I'm curious how you were able to update the firmware while running Linux. Thanks

Re: T540p/T440p+UltraDock+external display issues

I have a T440P which was bought in 2014 together with a docking station. It is connected to an Acer 20" monitor and has many USB cables connected (that's why we use the docking station, right?)

Started having external display issues in the recent months. Tried to change the video cable but it was to no avail. Found this discussion thread despite the fact that the issue has been around before I purchased the T440p!

After reading the various posts, it seemed the patch was the answer. I installed it and the problem was fixed temporarily .... until I inserted a thumb drive.

The external display went blank again and it was getting very frustrating that despite the known issue for so many years, there are not answer. So, did more research in this thread and discoverd that the power adaptor could be the cause.

Went to the local Lenovo reseller immediately ... only to be told that they have no stock!

Gave up and went to a local IT store to try my luck.

Turns out that they do sell 3rd party power adapters with the same power rating (90W). After confirming the specs (DC voltage & current) and making sure that there is a return policy, I decided to take the plunge and purchased it.

It turns out that the 3rd party power adapter is not only cheaper, but it also supports different laptops with an inter-changeable power tip. This means you can use it on other brands of laptop if you decide to ditch Lenovo one day. So, it was definitely a good investment!

Happy to report that in the last three days, all is good .... including inserting thumb drives!!
