Re: t540p power supply problems

This has just developed on my T540p.  But my power supply is not listed.  It is FRU PN 45N0362.

Does anyone else feel like they are going around in circles with these guys.  We buy a premium machine for a premium price and get nowhere.

1. Cleo, there is no Tip Number to reference on your tip.

2. There is no T540P listed as a model number on the Australian Lenovo support website so I can't even log an online request for service with the link to the Tip.

3. This power supply replacing tip is not consistent with what Mark has said re it being a Power Recepticle issue and that needing replacing.

Never, ever, ever will I buy another Lenono machine.

Hi Chris

The following link should work:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT082284

Regarding your ealier post you mention that you have a FRU PN 45N0362.

If that is right, then this is worrying as this adapter should work?  Can you confirm it is a Delta adapter and not a Liteon adapter (if you read all the various crap on the adapter, it does list the manufacturer).

The Delta adapters should work it is the Liteon ones that are failing.  But of course, there may be more than one problem goin on here.

As regards Lenovo support, the less said the better.  The forum guys have been very helpful (maybe a bit slow to respond but I guess they get a ton of issues to deal with).  They listen and engage in the discussion and take you seriously, whereas the telephone/online support guys have a thick Teflon coating and seem to dismiss what you say.  I find I cannot actually explain the problem before they offer a 'solution' e.g. re-install Windows, etc....

HI pfischer,

Thanks first for the link.  See how I go with the desk support tomorrow.

Yes I can confirm it is a Delta adaptor.  Can't work out how to post the photo but the bar code is:

11S45N0361Z1Z?MZ63CH26U Rev: A

11S36200314ZZ0003CH26U

Yes it develops the exact same symptoms as desicribed in this thread ie Aircraft Mode activated. Battery now at 60%. Can't flash bios as it wants mains power but reckons it hasn't got it.

Chris

The other reason that has been widely aired on the forum is to do with the power connector.  You have probably read this already but just in case you missed it:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T540p-Intermittent-power-supply-connector/m-p/1372939Hi

I suppose it's possible the power adapter has failed...  Any chance you can borrow another one or similar at least so you can flash the bios?

cheers  Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Power adaptor has not failed.  Still got 20V on a meter at the plug.

Re: T540p power supply problems

2014-11-24, 13:30 PM

I  experienced a major power supply last thursday when suddenly the battery of the PC started to discharge even if the PC was firmly plugged to the operating mains. No pop up from windows appeared and casually I identified the situation just because of the icon on right side of the bar. The process continued up to the point the battery riched the value of just 10% charge. Then finally the mains supply restarted without any apparent reason.

Meanwhile the only action I performed was to try to find an appropriate channel for getting assistance for a PC bought through AMAZON March 5th this year. Seems that for purchases via internet do not exist any assistance other then access this community.

Hi cesare40

Check the model number and make of the charger. The problem could be the charger if is is made by Liteon.

I don't know what to recommend re support, except that lenovo have been extremely unhelpful here in the UK as well.  It took me many months to sort out the problem I had...

Hi pfischer

I d'nt know how expert of this matter you are. In any case tks you very much for your quick reaction.

The model number of the charger is ADL135NLC3A and is marked as LENOVO (made in CHINA), not LITEON

If you are able to elaborate some suggestion from this pice of information, please do. I will be happy to hear from you

Hi cesare40

The important number is the FRU number.

Have a look at this : http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht082284 which explains the problem.

If your charger is manufactured by Liteon then it could be faulty.  If it is manufactured by Delta, then this particular problem does not happen.
