Re: t540p power supply problems

2014-02-12, 15:52 PM

Hi there,

we are still waiting for the replacement/ technician from Lenovo.

1.

We have 4 different AC adapter 135W which all did not solve the issue

2.

The Lenovo technician came to exchange the motherboard, but he did have the right ones

(now my keyboard ALT CTRL is also broken)

very bad reputation for a company.......like Lenovo.....

Nearly 2 month now 4 unusable T540p laptops.......and Lenovo seems not to be able to help.

Either a simple exchange of the Laptops or repaining them......

I am done with Lenovo right now....

copy paste problem for me too.

I have my brightness settings on battery mode on a lower level than when its plugged in. When my battery is on 100% and I have my AC power plugged in, the light on the power button will blink and the brightness changes for a second every few minutes. The power icon in the taskbar also indicates that the computer is not plugged in for a second at the same moment.
Doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, because this doesn't occur when I only have the AC power connected (even when moving the computer).

I also have the 135 LiteOn AC adapter...If this is the  problem I think a company of this size should recall them and replace them for all of us.

Good morning from greece.

Today I reported my problem to a certified lenovo service partner and one hour after they told me that they just received an newsletter from lenovo conserning t540p asking them to repclace the dc connector ( the wire that's inside the thinkpad). The newsletter didn't mentioned the t440p but I hope that they will solve my problem too.

I am going around in circles with technical support.  I have now had the mainboard changed.

Also received a new adapter.  It was supposed to be a Delta adapter but then a Liteon adapter arrived but tech support said they are identical spec so it should not matter!  So why send me another power adapter?

They seem to be clueless and not very interested in fixing this problem.  English is poor (which given I am in the UK is frustrating and has led to some strange emails) and their main aim appears to be to close the incident down.

Tech support also tell me they are do not take much notice of the forum as it is not 'official' and there is nothing on the lenovo tech support database about this issue.

It has been suggested by IBM engineer that I should escalate to a complaint....

Just seen a note that this thread has been escalated.  Please lenovo read this thread and listen to your customers.  We are not here because we enjoy winging but these machines are faulty.

Aaargh...

Re: t540p power supply problems

2014-03-03, 12:09 PM

I have done some more testing...

I have discovered the fault can be triggered about 30% of the time by pulling out the power plug from the back of the T540p:  I get the "Lenovo Setting Power has detected problems with your AC power supply..." pop up, screen dims, etc.

As mentioned previously I now have a new motherboard and have tried 2x Liteon chargers (lenovo will not supply me with a Delta charger which is frustrating as it would be good to eliminate this as a potential source of the problem, but never mind, they just have to keep sending engineers out and taking up hours of my time...).

So I am wondering if this is possibly a driver / software issue?  I have searched but can find very little information on how the machine detects the power adapter wattage.  Apparently there is a chip in the adapter that emits an ID via the power connector but not much else to go on.

Could the problem be with the software incorrectly detecting a problem?  Clearly the pop up should not appear when pulling out the charger lead...

Re: t540p power supply problems

Laptop is one month old:

Model: t440p (20ANCTO1WW)
Battery: Lite-On ADL135NLC3A / LI PN 45N0365 / FRU PN 45N0366
OS: Windows 8.1

At 98% charging the screen dimms shortly and the power on button flickers (like in standby). This happens a couple of times (i was watching a movie at that time). After 2 or 3 times dimming i also received a bad battery message followed by a flight-mode message.

It also happens sometimes when i connect/disconnect the power cord from the laptop a couple of times in a short period (i was testing my resolutions when on battery and when on power). Also then i got the above symptoms a couple of times.

However: At work i am using a Delta power supply of 135W type 45n0362 (ordered seperatelly) and i can confirm that one works great without any problems. It´s ony the Lite-On 45N0366 power supply that gives me problems. The 45N0362 works great.

So now it´s up to Lenovo to find out if it´s a driver issue that reacts differently between the two types of power supplies, or that the problem is in the power supply itself!

One or the other, when can we expect an official statement or solution? I want something official i can show to local Lenovo support in the Netherlands to have my power supply replaced within warranty....

Thanks, Jan

Ref: http://www.uklaptopaccessories.co.uk/Lenovo/135w-lenovo-45n0362-ac-adapter-2105.html

There appear to be a number of apparently equivalent 135W power adapters (although some might have round pins and these parts appear to be for different models but with same voltage and power output).

If this is the case then this might explain why there are not more reported problems.

Compatible with part number :

Lenovo 4X20E50558, 4X20E50559, 4X20E50560, 4X20E50561, 4X20E50562, 4X20E50563, 4X20E50564, 4X20E50565, 4X20E50566, 4X20E50567, 4X20E50568, 4X20E50569, 4X20E50570, 4X20E50571, 4X20E50572, 4X20E50573

Lenovo 45N0358, 45N0361, 45N0362, 45N0364, 45N0366, 45N0367, 45N0368, 45N0485, 45N0486, 45N0501, 45N0502

Re: t540p power supply problems

I have tried 2x Liteon chargers with FRU 45N0366

I believe the Della chargers (which appear not to have this problem)  have an FRU 45N0362.

Could anyone with a working system and Delta charger confirm this, or if they have a different FRU please confirm?

Re: t540p power supply problems

Hi guys,

I've finally got my issue fixed - after waiting for fix and upgrading my dock firmware - and still having this issue I called Lenovo and requested power adapter replacement. They send me:

FRU PN: 45N0362 - 2014.01 - REV.A

And it's very stable for last few days.... The faulty adapter I had before was:

FRU PN: 45N0366 - 2013.11 - REV.100

So don't wait anymore for official statement on this - this should be done by Lenovo weeks after discovering this (not months). Call the service and request replacement. It also depends on the person you talk to - if no luck call them again - you might talk with someone more reliable.

Good luck...

Works fine (Delta-45N0362):

Does NOT work (Lite-On-45N0366):

I have both adaptors above and can confirm 362 works fine.
