a new T540: Same thing here. My feeling is to return the machine to the store asap. I wanted a new machine, not a bunch of problems.

Re: t540p power supply problems

I have spent far too much time on trying to fix this and am not confident the internal power lead is the problem.

I am also reluctant to have my laptop completely stripped down a second time.

A temporary fix for me (Windows 8.1)  has been to remove the Lenovo Power Management Driver.

With this uninstalled the problem has gone.

Windows power management continues to function, you just don't get the battery status features etc.

It seems you also need to uninstall the Lenovo Settings Dependency Package for Windows 8.1.

I am not sure of the side-effects of doing this but it does not seem to have caused any problems on my machine.

* However I am still/now noticing screen display brightness changes (where the screen brightness drops every so often - probably because the system is thinking about changing power profile).  But I do not get the pop window about problem with the charger....

It's all very irritating and frustrating and I guess when I have the time I will get back onto lenovo but as I said before I do not hold out much hope that changing the internal power lead will fix it...

Re: t540p power supply problems

Got a T540p via Mail order here in Germany.

Had the power problem as well.

Following this forum, I did see that it is not a problem of my installation but hardware.

Called the seller, who said it is something known - i should call the Lenovo hotline.

Hotline told me it is known, batch of faulty power adaptors. They will send a replacement - I got a Deltec FRU 45N0362 - even it did not arrive within the promised time.

Later I read here that the root cause is the DC in assembly. Called the hotline again. They were totally stubborn and insisted that my device is working and they can give this to me in written and there is no other solution ....

.... and a post in any lenovo forum from anybody even calling himself administrator does not mean anything....

Called the seller again - quite soon after this I had the contact of a German Lenovo/IBM hardware service provider, telling me "it is known, they will have the spare sent to me and schedule a technician"

Spare part arrived already....

Seeing that the T540p is top €€€€, there are hardware quality problems, hotline with questionable service attitude and  I am still fighting with some driver issues with the trackpad, I really wonder which way the Thinkpads have taken ....

... could have gotten a Retina Macbook....

I am quite disappointed....

Re: t540p power supply problems

Similar story here...contacted support on three occasions.  Was sent a replacement AC adapter (both the original and the replacement are LiteOns FRU PN 45N0368), and had the motherboard replaced but this did not resolve the problem.  I was unsuccessful in referencing the information from this thread into the support calls.  Any suggestion on how I can order a Delta adapter?

The latest BIOS and Power Management drivers do not fix the issue.

Regards,

Matt

Hi stm

Depressing story, which is pretty similar to my experience.

Can I check two points you mention:

1) Did you still have the problem with the Delta  FRU 45N0362 ?

2) You wrote that they sent a part.  Is that the power supply cable FRU 04X5515 and did this fix the problem?

Thanks  Patrick
