T570 M.2 PCIe only 2 lanes not 4. Would USB adapter be faster?

2021-07-19, 2:18 AM

So it doesn't use the 4 lanes capability of the old MZVLW256HEHP-000L7 (Samsung PM961) card that come with it. iow the card is capable of Gen 3x4 but it is only being run at 3x2 because apparently that is the spec of the internal connection.

Was just wondering if I connected it to a M.2 USB thing like, perhaps,

https://www.newegg.com/orico-tcm2-c3-enclosure/p/0VN-0003-001D9?Description=m.2%20usb&cm_re=m.2_usb-_-0VN-0003-001D9-_-Product&quicklink=true

if it would then use the 4 lanes.

I am planning on getting a Samsung 980 Pro 250GB but I expect that if I plug it in internally it will only be run at 2 lanes...

Thoughts?

Freakin fast in any case!

I don't know how many lanes that adapter or the ones I'm familiar with use internally, but that connection tops out at 10Gbps.  The internal two-lane connection in the T570 can hit 16Gpbs, so your suggested adapter will be slower than the T570 itself.
