THINKPAD T400 Wireless Drop Problem

2008-09-18, 13:28 PM
I just got my new T400 with wireless card Intel Wifi Link 5300, but I was kept dropping time to time with Vista business. I reinstalled my system with no new Lenovo updates, but the problem still exisits. I do not know whether you guys with T400 have the same problem...

And everytime when dropped I have to restart my laptop, otherwise the thinkpad access can no longer find any wireless signal.

Re: THINKPAD T400 Wireless Drop Problem

After almost 2 successful weeks with my t400/5300 wireless I am starting to see the same problem for last 2 days. The 5300 drops signal and goes into an autoconfigured state (169.x.x.x) address. Looks OK in Device Manager. Press Fn+5 for wireless control and it may - or may not - say the 5300 is disabled. Had both a successfull reenable and just hung the thinkvantage program on various tries. If it does reenable, wireless will still not see any networks. Has happened 3 times now and am still researching more that it appears to be a real issue.

I am finding that my problem is most likely due to attempting to use uTorrent. Others complain about dropping connections with uTorrent (also heard mention of Firefox 3 although that is probably with some plugins). Probably due to poor drivers and all the connections these programs attempt.

Yes. T400 dropped most after I was trying to use Torrent (I am trying to figure out if this problem happens in XP and may post the result tonight), but it sometimes works fine. Also it stopped working once when I used Skype with camera. I seriously doubt if it is a hardware problem or a driver problem. Hope Lenovo can solve this problem soon.

It is definitely related to peer to peer use. Pretty easy to find others with same issue by googling system error 4226 which you will also see associated with this (along with other errors - Intel network driver related usually). Not limited to the t400 by any means but does appear to be the way the network drivers interact with parts of the IP stack. There are unofficial patched version the IP stack out there which may fix the problem but I can live without the peer to peer in place of that risk. I also saw Skype mentioned which is disappointing because I have yet to reload it on the T400, but now know it will likely be an issue. I have T43 and T61 all which basically same software installed (except for drivers!) and they never exhibited the problem. There may be some concrete answers out there to the problem, I just haven't had enough time to google further.

Thanks for your information terryv94. I also saw this problem when I was using Skype. Yes you are right there is no any problem when using T43 and T61 (looks like we have the same taste :) ), and I think I am gonna firgure it out how to fix myself.
