Exaclty one year (!!) later, exactly the same error. I bought the USB version of the compact keyboard to use it, among others, for Visual Studio 2013. I like the hardware, please fix the software.

Yeah.... That they don't fix this is a real support issue. I can get that they don't prioritise it. But that they haven't fixed it in over a year is just horrible.

I really love the Thinkpad products and would never consider a computer or keyboard without a trackpoint. But I'm really starting to get annoyed about this to the point where I staring to consider if Lenovo really is a company that I want to support.

Worst part is that I can't seem to find any where that I can conntact their support directly about this issue. I would really want to talk to someone at Lenovo about this instead of just complaining in a forum that no one at Lenovo seems to read.

Similar driver problem here, cursor speed for horizontal axis double as high as for vertical, Trackpoint uncontrollable this way. If there is no fix I have to send back. USB version of this keyboard works fine, but for 75€ this BT version is a bad joke!

So it looks like lenovo won't ever fix this.

It's really surprising that the USB driver does not have this problem.

It would be nice if we could implement our own driver then.

Can't be that hard really. It looks like it's really a driver issue.

I'm also thinking that nasty pointer drift really is driver issue.

Just got myself a Surface Pro 3 it has both that crash in VS and that drift issue.

I posted another rant about that problem a while back see:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Displays-Options-and-Accessories/ThinkPad-Compact-Keyboard-Review/m-p/1685795#M5146

Scary to see how Lenovo staff just totally ignore those forums and have little interrest in pleasing their customers.

Is this really the most succesful PC manufacturer? They have some serious customer support problems.

Actually on Windows 8.1 you should be able to just disable "ThinkPad Preferred Scrolling" as it looks like the middle button and mouse/trackpoint move is now interpreted as scrolling and past on as mouse wheel events to the application I assume.

That works nice for me in Notepad++, Visual Studio 2013 (even horizontal scroll working there), File Explorer, FireFox (need to disable auto scroll for better results). So I'm assuming it should work every where. Even Qt application are working, as I remember they never worked with thinkpad trackpoint scoll for some reason.

I don't think that would be working on Windows 7, I just tested that with the former generation of thinkpad USB keyboard and notepad++ and that did not work. So it looks like Microsoft did that right on Windows 8. I'm thinking it could have even been a feature request from Lenovo cause they are a really big customer from Microsoft.

Re: ThinkPad Preferred Scrolling for Bluetooth Keyboard Keeps Crashing on Visual Studio 2012/2013

Posted this in another forum but figured I'd throw it in here too. I massively prefer having ThinkPad Preferred Scrolling so this is the best resolution I could come up with...

I have a bit of a bandaid for this issue. Since Lenovo seems to be insistent on not fixing this issue (despite updating their driver in July), I wrote a quick PowerShell script to re-enable the process that allows for scrolling if it gets disabled from VS.

$Hscroll = Get-Process | ? Name -eq "HscrollFun"

If ($Hscroll -eq $null){
Start-Process -FilePath "C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\ThinkPad Compact Keyboard with TrackPoint driver\HScrollFun.exe"}
else {
"running"
}

You can throw this .ps1 file into Task Scheduler or your taskbar or whatever to alleviate the scrolling issue whenever it gets disabled. The most ideal solution would be Lenovo either fixing this years old issue or making their driver open-source so others can fix it, but I guess this will work too  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It is still happening on Windows 10 with Visual Studio 2017.
