ThinkPad T470p won't turn on

2021-04-05, 18:13 PM

My ThinkPad (T470p) won't turn on properly. The screen started glitching and no controls worked so I turned it off. When trying to turn it back on the power light and keyboard blink like it's in sleep mode but the screen stays black and I can't hear any fan-noise etc. I've tried taking the battery out and plugging in the power but nothing seems to work. What should I do?

Hello Kariorrason!

Welcome to community forums

Try performing a power cycle. Hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds while the charger is unplugged. Try using a different charger or plugging in from another outlet.

If the issue still persists, you can bring it to a local repair center for further assistance since it is more likely a hardware problem. This will help you identify which part of the computer failed.

Regards

Hello Kári.

I've not experienced this problem with a T470p, but I sure have with T460p.

Try the following:

  • Disconnect battery & AC adapter
  • Disconnect RAM
  • Disconnect CMOS battery
  • Hold power button for 30 seconds
  • Reconnect CMOS battery
  • Reconnect RAM
  • Reconnect AC adapter

You might have to do this a couple of times, but this has always worked for the T460p machines we have.

If this doesn't work, I'm in Reykjavík and I could take a look at it for you.

All the best!
Atli Jarl.

Thank you for the reply. I'm in Columbia right now and don't feel comfortable opening the computer up myself so I guess I'll just find a place to get it looked at. But thank you for the offer
