ThinkPad T490 with USB-C Dock Gen2 - external monitor resolution changes after screen sleep

2020-09-07, 11:08 AM

I have Samsung SA850 monitor (256x1440) connected with DisplayPort via USB-C Dock Gen2 (40AS0090EU) to T490 (20N3000EMX). Windows is not configured to go to sleep when in dock, but the screen powers down in 10 minutes. Every now and then, when the screen switches back on, the external monitor resolution is set to 1280x1024 and there are no higher resolutions available in display settings. It is like the system has not recognized the monitor. I need to turn the monitor off and back on to restore the optimal resolution.

BIOS and all drivers are up to date according to Vantage.

There were one or two BIOS updates meanwhile. Now the screen goes to sleep and disappears completely, no external monitor is listed until I disconnect the whole dock. There is however external disk attached to it, so this is a major frustration each time. I cannot remove the dock because there is no displayport on laptop and no HDMI on monitor.

Should I replace the screen or replace the USB-C Gen2 dock with different one. The laptop is in the list of supported hardware of the USB-C Gen2 dock though.
