ThinkPad T495 does not boot to Windows, goes to boot device select screen and no further

2021-06-30, 13:26 PM

Hello, I was having some other issues with my laptop, per my previous questions (I was told to get it checked by a repair shop but I haven't been able to go), so I went to the BIOS settings and reset settings to the factory settings. Since then, I've not been able to boot into Windows since then, as the laptop keeps going to the screen attached. Is it possible that the default BIOS settings messed up with something? I have had this issue before, but it went away once without ever coming back until now. Back then I was dual-booting my laptop so I chalked it up to that. But now it only runs Windows. Its not a Windows issue, because it did happen when I reset BIOS settings. If someone has experienced this issue before, please let me know.

Well, I was right. Everything is fine now. I reinstalled Windows, and it boots as expected, every time.

So if you cannot boot into Windows after resetting BIOS, you may need to reinstall Windows. You can still access your disk with a Ubuntu Live Disk, so backup from there, and then format your Windows install drive on your SSD. That's what I did, and apart from signing in again everywhere, downloading gigabytes of software again, and setting up Windows 10 how I like, that's all you have to do. Don't reset BIOS unless you're fully certain, kids.

Hi yatharthsood00!

Greetings

Based on your previous post, it is clearly a hardware problem and this is something that needs a part replacement to be fixed.

Loading the default BIOS setup should not affect the outcome especially if you have not tinkered with the BIOS settings before.

However, you can also wait for fellow user's sharing their experience as well.

Regards

I will reinstall Windows tomorrow (so 12h from now), have started a media creation tool process already on a different machine. I don't think it's a hardware thing honestly. The charging issue resolved itself right now yet again, and I think this booting thing is happening because Windows isn't agreeing with the BIOS reset all of a sudden. I'll backup with a Ubuntu Live disk and reinstall Windows after that. I'll post an update on what happens tomorrow
