Re: ThinkPad T510 Low volume

Just wondering, is there any replacement for Conexant driver and SmartAudio?

I have experienced that SmartAudio was somehow messing with sound quality (it's like volume pulse up-down, or like switching from 320kbbs to 64kbbs).

I experienced the same thing when I turned off the Audio Limiter.

Did you experience that problem only on headphones?
Because I've got this problem on speakers too and it doesn't seems to be related with volume limiter.

Try to disable VoIP in SmartAudio, if there will be no diffrence try to reinstall drivers, then disable VoIP again.

After I disabled VoIP it seems to be OK. I'm just waiting when problem comes again :D

This problem was on both headphones and speakers. I guess it has something to do with driver or smart audio. I tried  DFX Audio Enhancer today. DFX disables smartaudio and takes over the function. There was a noticeable difference in sound quality and volume. Funny thing I observed that windows sounds were very loud but the music volume (VLC and WM Player) was still not up to the mark. While playing music (windows volume at 50% and vlc at 100%), music should have been louder than the warning sounds of opening and closing My Computer tabs but I still could feel that music volume was weak.

This helped me too

What headphones do you have?

I am usining Sennheiser HD 580 and they're not extra loud, but they are big headphones, they need power (that's why they need pre-amp when you want use them for classic listening of CDs or LPs).. Little headphones like Sennheiser CX-300 II are very loud.

I have several sets of headphones. I had Sennheiser CX-300 but left speaker on that in not working anymore. Currently I am using philips she7005 and A4tech Mk 510. A4tech headset is one of the best sounding headphones. I have tried skullcandy and sony headsets as well.

The only solution i could find was to enable loudness equalization. I have changed my laptop and I was hoping that the low volume problem only plagued Tx10 models. But the conexant on my T420 is even worse. I will definitely avoid the machines with conexant audio in future.

I have upgraded my old T510 to a W540, and the audio is much better (both in quality and loudness - this is one of the loudest 15in laptops I have seen). This comes with the Dolby audio.

W540: i7-4700mq, K2100m, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB Samsung 840 EVO
T510: i7-620m, NVS 3100m, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB Samsung 840 EVO
