Thinkpad T440 keyboard not working due to water damage

2021-01-19, 19:34 PM

My wife spilled water over the keyboard yesterday and kept using it as it was still working. When i wanted to use it later the keyboard did not work at all.

I removed the keyboard from the laptop, sunk the entire keyboard in isopropanol and let it dry, but still none of the keys are working. The only thing that works is the joystick for moving the mouse.

I suspect the keyboard controller was destroyed due to the water damage and it still being used. Now I wonder if getting a replacement keyboard could solve the problem or if the controller for the keyboard is on the mainboard?

Could be difficult to tell based in the information in hand.  Replacing the keyboard would be the easiest and most cost effective place to start.
