Thinkpad T450 & Thinkpad E450

2016-03-02, 23:21 PM

Hello All,

Looking at a base T450 and a base E450. Same CPU, RAM, HD configuration but prices are different. I intend to do some java programming with the Thinkpad, mostly intended to use the laptop for presentation. This Thinkpad will travel only occasionally. To save a few $, can E450 fulfill this role or I should go with T450?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sorce,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We understand that you want to know the difference between T450 and E450 laptops.

Performance wise they are all the same, same processor, same chipset. Honestly, I don't understand why there are four nearly identical machines.

But still here are the few things you will miss on the E450:

  1. No way to add a secondary battery. Main battery is built-in non removable.
  2. No WWAN antenna or SIM slot. Probably no vacant M.2 slot either, vs two M.2 slots in the T450s for WWAN or SSD.
  3. No back-lit keyboard.
  4. No mini-DP port or VGA port. You get a HDMI port instead, but that limits your external monitor options.

To know more details about T450 please find the link.

Few things about L450 :

  1. The L450 is basically a T450s, i.e. same ports, WWAN, IPS display etc but without the dual battery option, and wrapped in cheap APS plastic case, hence a lot heavier.
  2. It does have dual battery but does not have a 1080p display (you can do a DIY upgrade though), and just a little bigger, a little heavier, constructed with glass-fibre reinforced plastic.

To know more details about T450 please find the link.

Hope this helps. Do post back us for further details.

Best Regards,

Poojitha.

Hello Poo,

Thanks for the details description. I know the existence of L series but did not know what this series is for. My workhorse is an IdeaPad which is less than 2 years old and I don't even see ideapad anymore. But thanks for your explaination, I ordered a brand new L450 last night instead. I hope it delivers the performance of the equivalent of its T's counterpart.

Hi Sorce,

We are happy to hear that you have ordered for the new L450 laptop.

Yes the performance will be equivalent to the ‘T’ series.

Best Regards,

Poojitha.
