Thinkpad T470 removable battery not charging

2018-01-30, 20:51 PM

Hello everyone,

I just got a new thinkpad t470 and am very happy with it except that the removable battery won't charge. The battery indicator in windows says:

Battery 1: %0 and charging

Battery 2: %100 and fully charged

Lenovo vantage shows the following:

I tried turning it on and off and removing the baterry,

I reinstalled Lenovo Vantage,

I used lenovo selution center but came up with nothing.

In the beginning it also gave me popups saying that battery 2 wasn't recognized and lenovo vantage woud show 'error' in the details of battery 2 but that went away after the reboots.

any suggestions on what I could do?

thanks

If reported voltage is correct, 8.1 V is too low to start charging. If you have warranty (should be 12 months for battery), you should RMA it.

BTW, was it empty for some longer period?

thank you fo your reply,

I think I'll RMA it.

after I updated windows it did charge to 10%. The voltage now shows 11.09v, but it stopped charging again.

The battery was empty when I got it. I don't know how long it has been sitting on a shelf with an empty battery.

I have the exact same problem with my T450S and it's out of warranty.

I even tried doing a new Fresh Install of Windows 10 but the problem persist

I uninstalled the battery in Device Manager but the problem still persist

I also installed the May 13 2018 Lenovo power management driver but the problem persist.

When I check the "Details of the battery driver" in device driver it as Microsoft - 2006.

Battery 1 (internal battery) is working fine.

HW Info says batter 2 has a wear level of 26% and the voltage is 5.9V
