Thinkpads T530+ are disaster

2014-01-25, 6:54 AM

In T530 you ruined keyboard

In T540 you ruined trackpoint

Last usable Thinkpad is T520

It is really disaster. Keyboard and trackpoint were the main reasons for us to permanently buy Thinkpads. Now all of this is gone. That is sad.

If Lenovo won't return back to professional design then we will be forced to swap to another brand after 15+ contented years with IBM/Lenovo.

:(

Really sad.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the design of T530 and T540.

Thanks for your feedback and I appreciate the thoughts shared.

While I think Lenovo still has an amazing build quality and the machines are tank-like in durability, people make comparisons within the same series. Many people have favorite features or design elements on a particular model, and because they value that, the design directions for new models may be seen as better or worse. The T series was always designed to be the business utility workhorse with roll cage, strong hinges etc.

As for quality, maybe not all the current systems available in the market now are tank-like how older ThinkPads were, but they also aren't as bulky or heavy. I still find them more durable than any other machine. You can always trust the machines and the warranty.

Best regards,

Mithun.

I share your dissappointment on the 540 for sure.  But to perhaps clarify, Lenovo did'nt ruin but rather changed the 530 keyboard.  The backlit feature is a very good one and a smooth to type.  But yes, they absolutely destroyed the 540 trackpad.  It's deplorable!

I have qty 3 T530 running Win 7 in my home since March 2013. They have been reliable workhorses. We all appreciate the backlit keyboards and had no trouble getting used to that keyboard style. Time will tell how reliable these laptops will be over the next few years. The most unreliable Thinkpad I've ever owned is a T41. The only thing original in my T41 case today is the display. I've replaced everything else in the machine due to unexpected failures over a ten year period. Keys failed on the keyboard, DVD drive, main planar, hard drive, DC to DC converter for power to display back lighting, memory, cpu, cracked palm rest, the list goes on and on.

I know a lot has happened since the IBM days, but I am very please with my 2013 T530. Love the display and backlit keyboard. I even dropped it from quite a high altitude, and nothing happened. Overall I'm quite pleased. Only hw problem I've encounterd was a faulty fingerprint reader, which was replaced on site.

I agree.
Removing the trackpoint dedicated buttons was the worst thing they could do, they were the brand signature and the main reason a lot of people uses thinkpads, the new cheap noisy macbook wanabee clickpad is just crap.
No led indicators, Multimedia keys over FN keys, In a business laptop, really?
