Same problem here with a Lenovo T490... trackpoint randomly freezes and can only use touchpad.

 

At least now I know that putting the computer to sleep and waking it up solves the problem... until now I was restarting the computer.

My motherboard and keyboard were replaced under warranty of my X1 Extreme 2nd Gen, and, hey presto, my TrackPoint froze again...

 

It seems to happen when I use the TrackPoint (undocked) too soon after resuming from sleep - the Touchpad then still works. When I then put the laptop to sleep and wake again, I can resolve (but not always, I think)...

 

Having said all this, it also happened with my Touchpad... So if I use that too soon, the mouse freezes - but then I can still use my TrackPoint.

I am having the same issue with my new T15g, TrackPoint randomly dies while the Touchpad continues to work.  This is a very  annoying bug for anyone who uses the TrackPoint exclusively.  I've had the laptop for about a month and the issue crops up maybe twice a week.

 

Nice to see the sleep solution in this thread which works for me.

 

I've been using Thinkpads for over 15 years and TrackPoint is the main reason I stick with Lenovo.  I hope Lenovo gets their act together and finds a solution for this.  And please give us a break with "open a new thread in the proper sub-forum".  This thread is the first result from google and this problem is obviously cross-platform.

Same issue here for me with my brand new T15 Gen.2 20W5S00100!

The TrackPoint device randomly hangs and just a reboot/suspend does get it back to life. :/

This isn't the quality I am used from Lenovo. My previous W510 never had this kind of annoying issues.

I hope Lenovo will get this fixed soon, as it makes working with this model a pain in the axx! :(

From day 1, the same problem with my T15.  Nothing I've done has resolved this problem.

If you have already tried resetting to the original image and drivers and still having issue, then it may be suggested that you reach out to the technical support team for further investigation.

I am having the same issue.  The track point quicks working but the touch pad will still work.  This hasn't happened for over a month and when the Lenovo system updates were applied a day ago, it started to reoccur again.  The track point has quit working on my computer twice today.  I hope this gets corrected soon.

I am experiencing the same problem with my two-month old T14 Gen 2 (discrete graphics model). Trackpoint randomly stops working.  Trackpad remains working, but not the Trackpoint.

 

Rebooting solves the issue temporarily, but as the Trackpoint is my primary pointing device, it's extremely frustrating.  Neither my previous T460p or T470p had this issue.

 

All drivers and firmware are up-to-date. All Windows updates have been applied.

 

I tried putting my system to sleep and waking it as someone here suggested -It does not solve the issue for me.

TP T420, i5-2520M, 8GB, 80GB mSATA+500GB HDD
HD+ with webcam and Optimus, Intel 6300 wifi, BT 3.0
Windows 7 x64 Enterprise SP1

If you already tried the suggested steps above and also resetting it to factory defaults, but still the issue persists. I would suggest contacting the tech support team; https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist

Hello, all - 

 

I will add my woes to the thread. Purchased a P15s and less than one week out of the box, the TrackPoint randomly quits working for no discernable reason. At this point, the only solution appears to be a reboot. Even putting it to sleep and waking it up does not work. Running up to date Windows Pro, with all current drivers. Very distressing performance from this machine.
