Unable to Access Rescue & Recovery for Factory Restore

2013-08-13, 15:40 PM

Hi!

Problem: Can't access {Rescue & Recovery (F11?)} on startup.

Keep in mind that my "Thinkvantage Toolbox" freezes everytime I try to launch it while I'm logged in. I can access the BIOS but when I try to either press F11 to get to Rescue and Recovery I get an error asking me if I wanna do a windows resume or a stuck key, same goes for the ThinkVantage button on startup that is.

Is it all linked to the fact that when I'm logged in and try to open ThinkVantage Toolbox it freezes? I tried to update everything from Lenovo and did nothing changed.

Help :catfrustrated: ! Thanks!!

Hi,

I assume your problem is that when you press F11 at system start up, you can entering RnR PDA as expected?

If this is the issue, I need your help to provide below info for further analyze.Thanks.

1.

under windows cmd line with admin privilege:

bcdedit /enum all > c:\bcd.txt

=> this will generate a file named bcd.txt under C:\,  please collect it and send to me.

2. Get me the disk partition layout info by below way:

    steps:

     a. run diskpart.exe with admin privilege

     b.  type list vol  and enter

     c.  type sel disk 0 and enter ( if there are more than one hard disks please choose the disk number of which C partition lies)

     d. type list par and enter

     e. get me a picture of all of the output..

3.  find bmgr32.exe from " C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Lenovo\BMGR" or 32bit system from " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\BMGR".

     run this command : bmgr32.exe /info > c:\bmgr32.txt and get me the "C:\bmgr32.txt"

Hi Customer,

Below is a workaround for your issue, it will show up RnR PDA entrance on your system's boot manager.you can see it at system startup. Then you choose entering windows or RnR PDA, please test and feedback result.

Note, this workaround  does not fix the "F11 can not entering PDA issue",  but you can manually choose the entrance to entering RnR PDA .Thanks.

Workaround steps:

  1. open cmd window with admin privilege
  2. run bcdedit /displayorder {572bcd55-ffa7-11d9-aae0-0007e994107d} /addlast
  3. run bcdedit  /timeout 30

PDA entrance will show up next time reboot..

Sorry for just responding.

Pardon the ignorance, but I need to execute those commands with cmd, once I do I can reboot the laptop and without pressing a button it's gonna ask me to go in the PDA? (Which is what exactly? the recovery partition? {after all I am trying to restore my laptop to factory settings})  or enter the normal windows environment?

Let me know thanks!
