I have a bunch of T480s machines which can't update - they get the TB error message on startup.

I download the FW from your site and run it, but I get an error that it can't find the .bin file - how to fix that ? (vantage doesn't work as well)

So basically i have thousands of dollars worth of bricks. How about Lenovo send the flashed chip replacements so we can recover our assets. I will never recommend this brand to anyone i like.

I downloaded and ran the newest (June 5) Thunderbolt firmware update from this link (the same link this post leads to): https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-T-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-T480-TYPE-20L5-20L6/downloads/DS502613

THIS FILE DOES NOT INSTALL A FIRMWARE UPDATE UTILITY.

It installs an app called Thunderbolt Control Center.

Will you please post the actual firmware updater to the t480 support page?

Re:Updated! - Critical Intel Thunderbolt Software and Firmware Updates - ThinkPad

2020-11-18, 6:50 AM

My work computer, Lenovo ThinkPad T580 and the Thunderbolt 3 gen 2 docking started giving me some problems the last days (because of an update?)

Before this update, I had 2 Lenovo 24" monitors with high resolution, and also was using the integrated monitor.

But, after the latest update I only can use 2 monitors and only an resolution at 1920x1080.

Is there any solution to fix this? Is it the new driver making trouble?

  • Have updatet all microsoft, and alt lenovos and intels system update. The driver for the thunderbolt is also the latest.

Dear Andy, I come back to this message of yours seeking resolution to problem with HDMI output on my T490 with USB-C Dock Gen2. I have updated even with the latest FW this morning through Vantage and still cannot get my second display connected to HDMI port to lit up. Only lit up for 5 minutes, then turn screen black with no output displayed but still seem to be engaged because it does not go to standby. I have performed all updates Lenovo, Microsoft and Intel's and cannot find resolution to my problem. as it seems there are a lot others with the same issue. Can you help please? Thank you!

I have a T480s with the same issue. No apparent problem with the machine except for the TB error message on startup. However, I haven't tried the TB ports as I have no TB devices. I also get the 'can't find .bin' file error when trying to install the updated firmware.

Is there a fix for this yet?

thanks.
