Re:Updated! - Critical Intel Thunderbolt Software and Firmware Updates - ThinkPad

I can not say if it works for your exact problem or not the error I was and am still having is the error message at start up

"This Thunderbolt application is not in use any more ..."

I just decided to live with it... because I don't have any TB devices and life is short and there is beer in the fridge.

HOWEVER if you want to give it a go, a Lenovo staff member pointed me to this "solution":

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T-series-Laptops/T480-DCH-Thunderbolt-driver-amp-TB3-Dock-Firmware-upgrade/m-p/4352681?page=3#4378204

If my post helps a Kudo is appreciated, if I answer your question, please mark it ”Accepted Solution“ and give it a Kudo! ... Some years ago I worked for IBM. Currently I do not work for, nor do I speak for Lenovo or IBM.

Re:Updated! - Critical Intel Thunderbolt Software and Firmware Updates - ThinkPad

My power adapter stopped charging my T480, so I tried another known working adapter and it didn't work either. It seems the entire USB-C bus has stopped working. The ports are quite clean. So now that I can't get an AC adapter to show up, I can't install this firmware that's supposed to fix it. I powered off the computer with about 10% battery after trying to get it to install the Intel management firmware update. Any advice/workaround in this situation?

First try an emergency reset - button in small pinhole on bottom.
USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

I' been asked to bring the below linked to service tip to peoples' attention; the updates are being distributed through Lenovo Vantage but we do know there are systems which may not have Vantage installed through choice or corporate image policies.

If you own / use a ThinkPad with USB-C or Thunderbolt controllers please visit this service tip:

Did you find a solution for this? I just encountered it with my T470. I'm worried that the "fix" is a new system board.

The latest version number and how to find it is in the README file which is on the update download page.
