Updated driver for T480 with Samsung NVMe SSD & why is write caching enabled.

2018-06-11, 13:11 PM

I just purchased a new T480 with the 1Tb SSD drive. In device manager the drive is listed with the following model attributes:

SCSI\DiskNVMe____SAMSUNG_MZVLB1T0EXA7
SCSI\DiskNVMe____SAMSUNG_MZVLB1T0
SCSI\NVMe____SAMSUNG_MZVLB1T0E

Two questions to the group please:

1)  The driver in use for the drive is a "generic" Microsoft driver  V10.0.16299.371   dated  2006 ....
I would have thought there would be a more recent / more efficient driver for this drive?

2) Write Caching is enabled in the driver.  I'm no wizard at this, but it doesn't seem like that would be necessary?

Thanks for any help!

Jim

1. if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

2. write cache enabled is normal for fixed disks. leave it as it is.

Thanks ....

I'm going to leave it alone, at least for now, but at some point will investigate the offering here currently at V3.0:

It might not work with the Lenovo OEM version

In any event, thanks!
