(WWAN) Mobile Broadband T400 cannot be found in Fn+F5

2008-10-14, 15:33 PM

I've just bought T400 2765-P3U, I'm trying to use my wwan option but I can't find it in Fn+F5 and in the device manager also, when i try using Mobile broadband connect in thinkvantage it says "no wireless mobile broadband device found" , I'm using windows xp if that helps, I tried the ericsson driver from lenovo website, change all settings in BIOS to defualt with no result, besides under the battery there is a slot for SIM card and I never seen the indicator of the wwan near the wireless indicator on, the light is always off, please any help is appreciated and thanks in advance

By the way I live in Kuwait

Waheedi, welcome to the forum,

according to the support site your T400 doesn't have WWAN

Product: ThinkPad T400 2765-P3U

Original description: T9400(2.53GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1440x900 LCD, 256MB ATI Radeon HD3470, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1GB Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, XP Pro

Have you added the Ericsson card yourself? If you have, you will not see the WWAN in the FN+F5 menu if a sim card isn't it's slot.

Andy, Thanks for your reply

I don't think that the information in lenovo website are correct because my laptop shipped with 9c Li-lon battery, Windows vista business with the option of dowgrading it to windows xp, besides if there is a sim card slot under the battery I think it means it has WWAN

I didn't install any device, I just dowloaded the ericsson driver from lenovo website tryin to fix the problem. by the way, when I leave the sim card inside the slot for a long time, the sound of finding new hardware pop-up, but nothing else, does the sim card helps of recognizing the device?, do you suggest tryin another sim card?, I just want the laptop to recognize the device and then I'll look around of what to make it work, just want it to be recognized

Sorry, but that is not the case. Alot of system are built "ready" which means you can upgrade by adding the WWAN mini PCI-e  card.

Do you see the card in Device Manager? There should be entries under Ports (Com & LTP) and also in Network Devices

under the network adapters there are three devices (1394 Net Adapter, 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection, Wireless WiFi Link 5100) and looked around in the devices found PCI Express or something like that I dunno if it's related.

does it have WWAN pre-installed? if not which one do you advise to buy that the best compatable with T400 and where to buy it

Are you sure you have the 9 cell battery? See this thread for battery information.

As I stated, if a SIM card is not inserted the WWAN will not be detected in Access Connections. I believe your T400 does not have WWAN, but it is highly likely that it could be added.

Yes I'm sure it's 9c battery I checked the thread it's the same, ok my research says that it should be the Ericsson Mobile Broadban Module 3507g WWAN card, I tried to buy it from the net but still not lucky to find it, any idea?, is it the most compatable one for my T400?, I'm non-American cunsomer and I'm wondering is it locked for AT&T, does it work with Vodafone?

Thanks Andy for your help
