Washed out screen (t500)

2009-11-05, 7:33 AM

I am trying to figure out if there is something wrong with my screen.  Actually, I am trying to figure out what is wrong with it.  The colour is incredibly washed out.  There is no real vibrance or contrast. Comapring video or picture quality with my other much older machine is causing me great distress.

I have the T500 WXSGA+ screen. It is brand spanking new and I haven't changed any of the settings. I am currently

using Windows Vista.

I was wondering if anyone had any troubleshooting advice? I wasn't expecting the greatest screen, but I certainly wasn't expecting one of this caliber.

Thanks in advance.

Same here; I own a T500 (2082-8WG) and I can confirm that my display has no colour, it looks washed out and dark and simply poor .....I cought myself using my old 6 yrs old notebook instead of the new one ...... Certainly, it is the last one I bought from Lenovo .... just buy an external display and enjoy the rest of your new Lenovo .....

External displays kind of defeat the purpose of a laptop for me.

my 1680x1050 also looks washed out and appears to be of less brightness

I keep looking for things that may not be adjusted correctly but so far to no help

my model is t500    2081-CTO and was assembled on sept. 7 2009.

Thinkpad CCFL screens are not known for their hgh contrast or brightness.  I have never personally experienced where they were washed out to the point where it affected the usability of the laptop.  I personally have the LED backlit 1280x800 screen which while it has a far from optimal resolution has excellent color brightness and contrast.
If you need more dynamic color, the video drivers should offer you some ability to imporve the saturation and contrast.  The only problem being if you have switchable graphics you need to configure your settings in both CCC (Ati) and the Intel control panel.
You may also want to experiment with different ICC's.  If you don't need correct colors (which may be improbable with some laptop panels) you may find one which will give you better contrast and color saturation.
