Re: Who would like a 15 inch ThinkPad that has a centered keyboard and trackpad (no number pad)

Like most everyone else who has responded to this post, I'm eager for a new ThinkPad 15-inch without a number pad. Nevertheless, I don't want Lenovo to rush it. PLEASE get it right such that the new release is a high quality, reliable, ergodynamic workhorse that truly meets users' needs!

The think keeping me on Lenovo is the trackpoint -- I hate trackpads. If it wasn't for that, I'd have bought the Dell already.

Wow, what a great thread that just what I am looking for, and would like to throw my hat in. I so much want a return of the 15.6" workstation caliber Thinkpad without 10-key, centered keyboard/trackpad, and a typist keys (pre-chiclet preferred but X1C6 keyboard is good). Trackpoint has always been the biggest productivity feature for me as a software developer with lots of keyboarding / drawing also in Office apps.

Being a lifetime Thinkpad user, I used and bought Thinkpads since the Thinkpad 700/700C in 1992. I practically bought virtually a new model every year for me and my family. Latest is P50 Xeon 64GB, X1C5, Thinkpad X1Y1, etc.

I'm now waiting for P1 or P52. Given I'm also a casual gamer and feel empowered to fire up a AAA title game to play for 15minutes between meetings or coding, I'm in love with the new MSI GS65 except for the short 1.4mm key travel and no Trackpoint. I am hoping P1 or 15.6" Thinkpad will also have ultra-thin bezel so can fit in a 14-inch case (much like X1 Carbon fitting close to a 13-inch case). While I can dream of a GTX 10 series (maybe on a T500 series?), I'm OK with two thunderbolt 3 ports for which one I can hook up to an external GPU gaming box. Just increase the refresh rate to something greater than 60Hz. Scrolling document on MSI GS65's 144Hz IPS-level screen is amazingly smooth.

@devnulljp

Both Dell and HP have laptops with trackpoints and on Dell Latitude 7480 the keyboard is without numpad.

HP laptops have only 2 buttons, no scroll I guess with mid button.

Unfortunately, both companies use chiclet/island keyboards, not the old style.

Lenovo:

Could you please make sure that this laptop does not have these 2 problems that some new ThinkPad 580s show:

1) 100% cpu utilization when idle,  which that people have seen fixed by installing a clean version of windows

2)  Coil whine

Is that the notebook we've been waiting for or should we wait for a different one? https://www.notebookcheck.net/Upcoming-Legion-Y530-and-Y730-are-Lenovo-s-best-bet-against-the-MSI-GS65-and-XPS-15-9570.308090.0.html

No that's not it.  The Legion is a consumer machine.  We're waiting for a proper 15.6" Thinkpad with a Trackpoint and centered keyboard (basically a modern version of the T530/W530).  People seem to think it will be called a P1, or possibly a T580p.  We're all keeping our fingers crossed.
