Re:closing the lid of a sleeping (S3 standby) T14 AMD, wakes it

I'm also affected by this issue (running Linux on the machine).BTW, if a new BIOS version is to address standby issues, it would be great also to take care of this bug:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Other-Linux-Discussions/T14-AMD-battery-drain-in-standby-Linux/m-p/5037674?page=2#5160957

that equally affects multiple people.

@someotherguy

Was 1.27 bios supposed to address either the lid or the keyboard issue? There are some changelog entries that indicate perhaps it was.

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/r1buj58w.txt

Fixed an issue that the system can be awakened from S3 by any key under Linux mode.

That reads like a direct fix to the keyboard issue, however I can report that any key still wakes from S3

Added SleepState item & Lidsensor item into WMI.

Not clear what that is, but seems related to the lid issue, however there's no change there either.

I'm not sure what those release notes are referring to.  I can tell you that we are still working on a test BIOS to fix the keyboard and lid close/open issues in S3 mode.  I just tested a trial version this morning that seems to fix those issues.  I don't know when it will be formally released but there is definitely progress being made here.

Since there is apparently some Lenovo Staff reading this thread....

Not only does it wake when closing the lid it also wakes when power cable is REMOVED!!!

  • press power button to suspend
  • remove power cable -> wakes

Can some one confirm this?

I can confirm this on my T14 AMD. The following actions wake the computer from S3:

  • Closing the lid
  • Unplugging the AC
  • Opening the lid
  • Plugging in the AC
  • Pressing power button or Fn key

In my opinion, and experience from previous Thinkpads, closing the lid or unplugging the AC should never wake the computer. Opening the lid or plugging in the AC should be optional. Only the last point should always wake the computer.

I have found, however, that if the laptop is put to sleep by closing the lid, then plugging or unplugging the AC does not wake it up. Moreover, there is a setting in BIOS (1.27) to disable the lid sensor. This is useless, however, because it removes the only way to sleep the computer and still being able to unplug the AC.

Re:closing the lid of a sleeping (S3 standby) T14 AMD, wakes it

I have a T495 and now facing problems about power.

When the t495 runs on battery, its shutdown while the battery was still ok (40%), can not start, need external power to start. Sometimes I unplug the power and it is can run on battery till the battery level drop to 20% (if I tried to restart, sleep, the laptop shutdown and can't turn on without external power).

I took it to technician and the guy told me problems come from the mainboard or BIOS.

Could you tell me any thing good about newly BIOS or driver. I don't want to believe that the new laptop have a malfunction mainboard.

Thanks.

@someotherguy   I've also confirmed waking from power cable plugging/unplugging. Please try it and forward it to the bios team.

I'm still using the test BIOS that fixes the lid close issues, and this problem does not happen for me.  I believe these unwanted wakeup issues have all been solved and now it's a matter of formally testing and releasing the BIOS to the support website.  But I don't know the release date yet...

Sounds good. Why don't you give us a preview on this bios update? I am willing to test it for you for absolutely free of charge :-)

@someotherguy These issues appear to be fixed in 1.29, thank you for guiding this to a resolution.
