Re: 1802 Unauthorized network card

In case it might help someone, seeing how ppl started replying to this thread i created quite a while ago:

The guys over at this forum was kind enough to help me out:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Lenovo-Thinkpad-T420-4177-CTO-83uj20us-Wifi-Card-whitelist-rem...

So have a look at that if you got the same model as me and the same situation as i was in. Remember that it carries a risk flashing BIOS, and you may end up bricking your computer. I can't be held responsible in any way so be sure to research properly before hand and do it at own risk Smiley Happy

It worked perfectly for me though Smiley Happy

Re: 1802 Unauthorized network card

Because I bought the laptop without there being any information about the restriction, and because I was explicitly told there wouldn't be a problem, Lenovo say they're replacing my 3G card with a Lenovo one.

More importantly, they're updating the website, tech specs and staff training to make sure future buyers know about the restriction before buying.

Re: 1802 Unauthorized network card

Hi,

Found this 3 month old post while trying to solve my issues with a Gobi2000 3G card.

I removed this Gobi2000 3G card from my X100e and inserted it into my W520 and the same error message appears.

I bought the X100e used, could it be that the 3G card in it is a 3rd party as well? If that is so, is X100e is not 'whitelist choosy' as W520?

Comments please?  Smiley Happy

Re: 1802 Unauthorized network card

more often than not, card will be recognized based on two variables in card's eeprom memory - VID (vendor ID) and DeviceID. Instead of reflashing your BIOS, change 2 parameters to something that is whitelisted. You will need someone with whitelisted card to get exact numbers or google for information.

Re: 1802 Unauthorized network card

This is great suggestion. How do you do that? how can you write VID and DID into cards eeprom memory?? what tool you use?

Re: 1802 Unauthorized network card

how will this affect the device driver? isn't that registered to the kernel based on the VID and DID?

Re: 1802 Unauthorized network card

Maybe Lenovo wants us to buy a new laptop that already has the latest & greatest 802.11ac network card.  But given this issue with their "white list", would you buy a new Lenovo machine ? ? ? ? ?

I think not......

Re: 1802 Unauthorized network card

I just had this same "unauthorized" failure in my W540.  What's next?  Refusing to boot due to "unauthorized" memory? Hard disk? USB devices? Display?

I'v really liked ThinkPads for *years*, but this is the last one I'll buy.  This behavior belongs on the junk heap.

Re: 1802 Unauthorized network card

I have a T440p and I purchased a 7265 (FRU: 04X6030) from Lenovo and it didn't work either.
