Anyone sucessfully installed the new Samsung 840 Series SSD on a T400 laptop? I'm planning to upgrade to the T400 with and SSD, but like to know which SSDs will work. Not many places selling the Samsung 830 SSD and the intel 320 SSD are expensive for such small disk capacity.

I am intresting too, I would buy an ssd (probably same model) and recover a backup made previously on it!
I don't have any will to install everything again from zero.. .-)

I just upgraded my T400 with the Samsung 840 SSD 120GB (model# MZ-7TD120), it takes less than 10 seconds to boot up and has a Windows hard drive experience of 7.7 out of 7.9. The total Windows 7 Experience was 3.4 though, because it takes the lowest value, which was the graphics.

You should be fine with the Samsung 840. It is much faster than the Intel 320 series. Just make sure you check the size of the drive you have in the T400. Some T400 models shipped with 1.8" wide drives (mainly ones that shipped with SSDs), so if you have one of these you'll need a new drive caddy since the Samsung is the standard 2.5" wide SSD size.
The nice thing about the Samsung is that all of the models are the thin 7mm tall type drives, so they fit in the newer laptops that require these so it will be more likely to be compatible with your next laptop.
