Re: Battery issues about my t470

2018-01-08, 15:14 PM

He everybody.
Its a pitty, that the only information available is a fix in the companion application (which is only available for windows, although the t470 model officialy supports linux (ubuntu) and a lot of customers dont use any windows).

For me the issues where fixed after calling the lenovo support:

1. I called them and pretty fast they suggested to change both batteries (internal & external)

2. After the batteries where send out, a local technican called me to arrange an appointment

3. He replaced both batteries

4. I did a hard reset by pressing the emergency reset button (little hole in the ground cover)

Since then (~2 month ago) the external batterie uncharges first and i never experienced the cpu throttling anymore.

The second issue seems to be connected to the first because the cpu is throttled if the overall batterie load is below 6%.

Also the fix seems to not rely on a specific os.

For me there where no additional costs because of the warranty.

For everybody without any warranty coverage i would suggest to nevertheless call lenovo because this seems like an issue in older batteries and they may be accommodating.

Well,

I think it's not fair. We have chosen Levovo as a reliable equpment for our team. We have bought several of t470 with NVME drives and 16GB of RAM. It's all useless when you can't replace your battery when you need it.

Next year we will replace all notebooks for new ones. It's really sad but this time it won't be Lenovo.

It's dissapointing approach.

Excatly everything you did was my resolution to this issue. I actually had a motherboard being shipped to me for replacement since both battery replacements did not seem to resolve the issue. The key was the emergency reset. The BIOS was updated prior to battery exchanges and Lenovo Vantage was also updated. Key was the reset.

Re: Battery issues about my t470

Hi All,

Not sure this  is fixed by any update or manually. I'm in the same boat in 2020. Could anyone lead me to correct steps/update to fix this issue ? . I recently bought thinkpad t480 mainly for the bridge battery system and disaapointed  to see this  issue.

Is this fixable  ? if yes how?

And the below steps, I'm not exactly sure how to reset the batteries

For me the issues where fixed after calling the lenovo support:

1. I called them and pretty fast they suggested to change both batteries (internal & external)

2. After the batteries where send out, a local technican called me to arrange an appointment

3. He replaced both batteries

4. I did a hard reset by pressing the emergency reset button (little hole in the ground cover)

1. Do I need to reset via lenovo vantage suite  while AC power attached ?

2. Do I need to reset using pin while  AC attached ?

3. Do I need to remove the removable battery before reset ?

Re: Battery issues about my t470

Hi All,

Last week I received my T480 and it seems my laptop got the same issue which is bit dissapointing because I chose T480 over T495 just because of the bridge battery system. Is it really possible to fix this properly by a DIY workaround? Or should I replace batteries first as per following steps ?

Copied from the thread:

For me the issues where fixed after calling the lenovo support:

1. I called them and pretty fast they suggested to change both batteries (internal & external)

2. After the batteries where send out, a local technican called me to arrange an appointment

3. He replaced both batteries

Any suggestions/fixes in 2020?
