Bluetooth audio on Lenovo T440P laptop is very quiet and accompanied by high frequency noise

I can get the headset to pair and start services for listening to music and I can hear through it but the sound is quiet and when the computer sends a sound to the headset (e.g. music is playing, or when "testing" the audio to have it ding), the sound is accompanied by a high frequncy noise. When no sound is transmitting there is no noise.

 

I've tried two bluetooth headphones, most recently Sony 1000xm2 but the problem persists. The headphones work for paired with phone and my desktop computer at home but not with Lenovo T440P. I've updated Bluetooth drivers from Lenovo and that hasn't solved the problem. In device manager for bluetooth radios drivers listed are Intel Wireless Bluetooth driver version 18.1.1511.552 (10/9/2015) and Microsoft Bluetooth enumerator version 6.1.7601.23403 (6/21/2006). The audio sink driver under the headphone properties is Intel version 19.0.1604.618 (3/29/2016). I've tried disabling all the services under the device options except for audio sink but that doesn't help. I've tried using both the headphones or headset as the playback device, and headset is worse and has the same problem, so it's not that I'm using the wrong playback device.

Welcome to the Lenovo forum discussion! 

 

Please try using the Lenovo vantage app https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/ht505081 and check for a system update, then install them all. After that, restart the laptop and test it again. 

 

In addition, try reinstall the Audio driver and test it. Let us know how it goes.
