Currently I have a lenovo T460 that has the i5-6300U, 256GB SSD and one stick of HYNIX 4GB DDR3 1600MHZ 204-PIN LAPTOP MEMORY HMT451S6BFR8A-PB. It is my daily computer for school as a comp sci student. I don't intend on gaming on it. My question really is should I fill the slot with another hynix stick($25) for the time being and wait until RAM prices drop or should I go straight to the performance 2x8GB ram that I am intending to do at some point? What I'm looking at right now would be a $110 kit.

4GB Hynix add to existing 4GB=8GB dual channel memory. $25.
Anything above 8GB would be overkill and not utilized.
You have two cores, 4 threads. 2.4GHz up to 3.0GHZ.
and SSD. Unless you TOTALLY load the machine, 16GB memory would show less than 8GB used (my opinion).

Thats what I was thinking. I do want to have a ton of RAM at some point even if it's not needed... Just not at the current prices. So you think I should just keep it at what I will use right now, but do you think RAM prices will come back down? If so when?
Thanks for the reply!

DDR3L prices are bottomed out. State of the art m2.2280 storage.
Lookup a Samsung PCie Nvme SM961.
1 Euro=$1.19 US.
Read rate is 3200MB/s for SM961.
