Yes to i7 but no to latest.  You are limited to 4th generation processors.  The i7 CPUs used are these:

i7-4600M

i7-4700MQ

i7-4800MQ

i7-4900MQ

I have T540p with I3-4000M processor inside. Recently I bought I7-4800MQ processor with intention of replacing old one.

After switching processor I cannot start computer. When I press power button cpu fan starts to spin, hd starts working but nothing more happen.

Supplier of I7 confirms that CPU is ok. I have the latest version of bios.

Does bios have blockage of different type of CPU than it was factory installed ?

Maybe I need to set something more on motherboard ?

CPU should be production sample, not a pre-sale or engineering one (ES/QS processors). There are such cheaper CPUs in the after market. Legit i7-4800mq CPU should have S-spec number on the package - SR15L.
