Can I keep the SSD of my old T420s?

My Thinkpad T420s has a serious problem. I just received a quote for 1000+ $ to have it fixed.

The SSD works though, and I would like to know if I can reuse it as it is (with programs and data)  on a new one. Would I need to buy exactly the same model?

Your help is welcome.

Yes, but remove any passwords before removing it.

Re: Can I keep the SSD of my old T420s?

Thanks for your quick answer.

When you refer to removing ANY PASSWORD, do you mean Windows 10 user password? Will it then work if the new PC comes with Windows 7 preinstalled?

The other problem is I cannot reboot the old PC and hence remove the user password.

And how dependent is the success of the  SSD swap of the ThinkPad model I would be buying?
