Can Windows XP be installed on a T540p

We maintain and support scanners and we need both 32-bit and 64-bit OS.

I've been able to dual boot Windows 7 32-bit and Windows 7 64-bit on our new T540p.

Can I add Windows XP (32-bit) ?

Re: Can Windows XP be installed on a T540p

Hi Eur0star,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are looking to install Windows XP OS on your ThinkPad T540p.

There are no drivers available for Windows XP, hence installing it will not work has expected. Hence I suggest you to use Windows 7 only.

However if you want to give a try you can install, but make sure you have created the recovery media if the system has shipped with pre-loaded OS.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

XP is no longer supported by Microsoft.  It is full of security vulnerabilities.

Use at your own risk.

Re: Can Windows XP be installed on a T540p

I suspect you're right.

The drive controller requires an extra driver  iaStorF.sys,  which is not available for windows xp 32-bit, (it may be available with 64-bit . . .  but that's no use to me).

I was hoping someone had come up with a solution.  The UEFI 'BIOS' does not help as you cannot modify the controller to IDE or RAID which may help.

So I'll live with Win7 64-bit and Win7 32-bit which are running OK and use the remaining partition to install 8.1.

Thanks

Brian

Could you try installing the XP virtual machine on a Windows 7 machine?
