Question

I cannot change the "boot startup sequence" on T520.

I did this : Start computer > Press F1 > Thinkpad Setup > Startup > Boot)

This opens "Boot Priority Order"

I want to boot my computer from a CD in order to run certain software but I do not know what any of the listed terms in the "Boot Priority Order" stands for.

The Lenovo User Guide says that each "attached/installed device" is supposed to be followed by a "colon" and information. On my computer, this is not the case.

The list is:
(It seems that each "0" is a "zero" and not a "capital O")
1. USB CD
2. USB FDD
3. ATAPI CD0 HL-DT-STDVDRAM GT33N
4. ATA HDD2
5. ATA HDD0 HITACHI HTS727550A9E364
6. ATA HDD1
7. USB HDD
8. PCI LAN IBAGE Slot00C8 v1366
9. ATAPI CD1
10. ATAPI CD2
11. ATA HDD3
12. ATA HDD4
"Excluded from the boot priority order [are] Other CD [and] Other HDD".

Answer

From the above, the built-in DVD drive in your computer is currently listed at third (3. ATAPI CD0 HL-DT-STDVDRAM GT33N), which is right after a USB CD drive and a USB flash drive. If you do not have either of these, then they will be skipped, which means that you should be able to boot from CD once one of those two are placed in the machine and then restarted.

Once the machine is restarted, you should receive a prompt that says "Press any key to boot from CD...".  Once a key is pressed, the machine should start booting from the disc. Also, the HDD where everything should be located is Disk 0.

If you are using built-in CD drive, then should move the third one to the top.
