Couldn't find these drivers on Lenovo download support page

2012-12-17, 16:20 PM
I've downloaded the drivers that I'd need for clean install of Windows 7. I've then checked the Device Manager in Windows for current drivers, and I couldn't find the corresponding ones for download. Here's the list (as shown in Device Manager): SM Driver: SM bios service (Lenovo TVT SMBIOS, 6.1.1020.0); SM bus service (Lenovo TVT SMBUS, 6.5.1018.0) --////-- Sound, video and game controllers: Intel(R) Display Audio (Intel Corporation, 6.14.0.3090) --////-- System devices: 3rd Gen Core processor DRAM Controller - 0154 (Intel, 9.3.0.1011); Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SMBus Host (Intel, 9.3.0.1011); IWD Bus Enumerator (Intel Corporation, 3.1.27.0); PCI Bus (Intel, 1.0.4.225). It's possible that these come with other packages, but I'm not sure which. Would be great if anyone knows anything about these drivers.

Hi, lenssd9

Lenovo makes it simple and easy to find and download drivers for your machine. You can go to this driver matrix and select your machine type. From here, you will be brought to a site where you can filter drivers by component (audio, video, chipset, etc.) and also filter by operating system. These drivers should be the most up-to-date for the components and your system.

Let me know if it helps,

Adam

That's exactly what I've done. Still not sure if the drivers that I've listed are included in those download packages.

I just went through the C:\SWTOOLS folder, and I couldn't find these available for download from the Driver Matrices Lenovo Support page (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073832): C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\SMBIOSDRV (SM BIOS Driver), C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\WiDi (Intel Wireless), C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\DisableAMTPopup, C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\EnablePS (enables maximum power saving on wifi adapters), C:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXEX\WIN7\KB2661796-v2 (windows update fix). Are these needed for new Windows installations?

Hi again, lenssd9

Upon reinstalling Windows 7, you will be able to update the drivers for your machine from the Lenovo Driver Matrix. After reinstalling Windows 7, there will also be Windows updates available. Between the drivers and the Windows updates, all components of your system should function normally.

If you'd like, you can create a backup of your C:\SWTOOLS onto an external hard drive or a DVD and then move those files into the new C:\SWTOOLS folder after you reinstall.

The drivers that you listed are needed after an install of Windows 7, but are not needed for the installation. They can be installed and updated later. To make the process easier: I recommend the following:

  1. Download the network drivers from the driver matrix for your machine.
  2. Back up these drivers onto a USB flash drive, CD, DVD, or external hard drive. (Keeping the network drivers will ensure that you can get onto the Internet quickly after the installation and download the remaining drivers.)
  3. Reinstall Windows 7.
  4. Open the backed up network drivers.
  5. Go here and download the remaining drivers for your system.
  6. Run Windows Update

Once these are done, your computer should run fine.

Best,

Adam

I've read somewhere that C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\SMBIOSDRV can't be installed by running a setup program, and there are no instructions included. Any advice on this? Also, what is SMBIOSDRV for, which device specifically requires it?

Hi again, lenssd9

SMBIOSDRV is a BIOS driver for your system. When downloaded from the driver matrix, the BIOS driver will be a package installer. The SMBIOSDRV file itself is a part of this package installer. Since it's part of this package installer, you won't see that file when you download the drivers. After downloading the BIOS driver, click the .exe to install it and this file will be installed.

Best,

Adam

Hi lenssd9,

Due to the way package installers work, the individual files that a the package will unpack are not visible. However, here is the driver that you require after reinstalling your system.

Best,

Adam

Here's what I've found from SMBIOSDRV INF files: psadd.SVCDESC = "Lenovo Parties Service Access Device Driver", Tvti2c.SVCDESC = "Lenovo SM bus driver". Are you certain that this Windows 7 SM BIOS Driver is the same thing as UEFI BIOS Flash utility that you've linked in your post?
