Hi All!
I'm in Spain, but going to be in USA for a while and then traveling from Europe to USA for a few months. I would like to buy a T400 with WXGA+ LED display, webcam, ATI 3470 and PCMCIA slot. In Spain there's no single laptop with that specs, the ones who has the display don't have either the ATI or the pccard slot, and the ones with the ATI and the PCMCIA slots don't have the WXGA+ and camera, and you can not choose any kind of custom laptop... However all the Spanish ones I could find also have warranty in USA.
So I came with the Lenovo USA online shop, where you can choose your laptop as you wish (well, right now they don't have the WXGA+ LED display with camera), but looks like they only offer the "2764" machine for the T400, without warranty in Europe. However in the Lenovo UK online shop they also DO have the 2764 WITHOUT WARRANTY IN UK?!?!?!?!?
So my questions are:
1 - Does anyone know if the 2764 has warranty service in Europe (al least UK) or not?
2 - If you buy the laptop online in the USA shop, do they always send you the 2764?
3 - Is it possible to order any other machine type with custom configuration and warranty valid in Europe?
4 - Does anyone know when is the WXGA+ LED and camera going to be available again (It is in the UK online shop right now)?
Someone suggested that the 2764 doesn't have warranty in Europe to avoid purchasing from Europe, but that has no sense to me as there are other models in the online shop with warranty in Europe (like the R400).
As for the systems specs I would like to buy, in case someone knows if there exists a "preconfigured" laptop with it (although not listed in the tabook, I allready checked it) and the european warranty:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P9500 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2) 25W
14.1 WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT, w/ LED Backlight and Camera
ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 with 256MB
2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) with Fingerprint Reader
160 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
Without Turbo Memory hard drive cache
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim (Serial ATA)
Express Card Slot & PC Card Slot (without memory card reader)
Integrated Bluetooth PAN
Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5350 (AGN) with My WiFi Technology
Integrated AT&T Mobile Broadband Card (3G)
4 cell Li-Ion Battery
Thank you for your help and time!!!

Hi!
I forgot to ask for how long can I buy the Thinkpad protection once I get the laptop, and where does lenovo say it (some people say 30 days, while others say 60). I know that the warranty can be extended while it is valid, but would like to know about the thinkpad protection, and if it will be also valid in USA and Europe.
Thanks!!

Hi!
I have just purchased a Lenovo laptop in US and moved to Europe, naturally assuming that the waranty will be OK, but it is NOT. Be aware that the laptops purchased in US do not have warranty in Europe! Lenovo representative whom I contacted before my purchase was not honest to me and as a result, I appeared in Europe with a new laptop which has these keyboard flex issue and the power adapter defects (detected only several days after purchase), and there is now way to get any help from Lenovo in Europe because this laptop was purchased in US and has no european warranty.
Be aware!
Probably it is easier to choose another laptop brand.
This Lenovo stuff have nothing in common with what was proudly called IBM ThinkPad.
Nothing comparable to old good IBM ThinkPads.... Very upset.

You would have been very upset with IBM too then, as the same thing did happen with specific ThinkPad configurations in IBM days.
Cheers,

klebrut,
What's your machine type? Did you buy it on the lenovo's online shop?
If you are interested, I called to Lenovo Spain, and they told me that usually they try to help to anyone, altough some machines could have no FRUs in Spain and it's better to buy one that's is supported here (That's what I'm trying), and something I did not understand about the keyboard's locale. Maybe you want to call them to see if that's true and they want to help you to the phone number +34 91 714 79 83.
The couple of times I have called to lenovo spain I have been very impressed for their willingness to help you, they even call you back whenever you send an email. It's a shame they can not have good sales policy nor interesting enough models, I suposse due to some stupid CEO. They even didn't know that you can configure your laptop in USA and UK, and they got screewed when I said "Lenovo's online shop" and "xxxx-CTO".

I mean the machine type, not the model... Is it 2243-CTO, 2055-CTO...? Having it purchased in the US should be no problem as long as the machine type is covered in europe.
Did you buy it in the online shop? What machine type did the order show?

Unfortunately looks like yours isnt supported in Germany or anywhere in Europe. Look up the Lenovo IWS page linked below to see where your particular machine type is covered under the international warranty...

They sell it on the Lenovo UK online shop... according to IWS, the models are serviced in every country where you can purchase them, so they should have warranty in UK. Why don't you try to contact Lenovo UK and ask them for warranty and remember them that they are selling it online in UK?
And please report your findings!
