The old motherboard failed - I think - after food was spilled onto the keyboard and seeped onto the system between the touchpad and the "mouse" buttons. I bought a new board, but am having problems.
When booting the new system board, the error message:
The Service Manual calls for reading the number off the old board but I don't have that software. Also - if the motherboard is dead - it pretty much does no more than flash the LEDs and then does nothing - can the EEPROM be read? Actually, I cannot find the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette. Will Support talk with me about this?

The diskette that you're referring to contains proprietary Lenovo software and is NOT legally available to end users, registered business partners/service centers only.
