Re: Displayport worked for a long time, stopped after docking

Wow! Puzzling, so two completely different cables: same problem. It seems like a driver issue to me. Have you attempted to completely uninstall the displayport drivers and reinstall?

Hmnn, no. Which one is the displayport driver? Searching "displayport" on this page

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT063289

brings up nothing.

Re: Displayport worked for a long time, stopped after docking

I am mistaken, they would be included with the normal display/video drivers, sorry about that. That being said, have you tried to uninstall and reinstall those drivers? That sometimes solves issues similar to this one.

Re: Displayport worked for a long time, stopped after docking

Hmnn, something weird.

Following some instructions from here

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS013659

says that the Intel display hdriver thing needs to show up in the device manager under display adapters. It doesn't. Also should be visible in Add/remove programs list, but isn't.

Furthermore, when installing it:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-74433

it says it's installing an "Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver".

Re: Displayport worked for a long time, stopped after docking

I assume from a quick look at the first post. Your machine is Intel GPU only. The adapter must show in Device manager and as working. If not then something is corrupted. Drivers, registry or both for some reason.

You'll have to sort that bit out first.

Re: Displayport worked for a long time, stopped after docking

It's not Intel GPU only. It's switchable. Apparently, only nVidia (Optimus) is working.

Would Intel not working even cause this, though?

Re: Displayport worked for a long time, stopped after docking

In that system I believe you may need Optimus. But that is a technical aspect that Lenovo should answer.

It seems your BIOS is set for Nvidia only (discrete) not Optimus. In Optimus both adapters will appear in device manager. That is how I am running.

Re: Displayport worked for a long time, stopped after docking

That's correct. Setting it to Optimus results in low resolution, device manager shows only a VGA adapter.

Re: Displayport worked for a long time, stopped after docking

Another update: converting displayport tp HDMI works, but again resolution is limited. This is so weird.

Re: Displayport worked for a long time, stopped after docking

it could also be the fact that Displayport on the Dell that is malfunctioning.

My U2711 did that, and this is a common problem in some Dell Ultrasharp monitors.
