Downgrade to Win 7 Pro from Win 8.1 Pro

I will be downgrading my T440s to Win 7 64 bit. I was reading the instructions that came with the Win 7 CDs from Lenovo and on page 4 it states on item #6 "select GPT partition style or MBR partition style". From what I understand I would use GPT partition style because the t440s uses a UEFI bios. Is this correct? or do I use the standard mbr.

Re: Downgrade to Win 7 Pro from Win 8.1 Pro

hermanth - Thank you for the response but that did not answer the question. My question was regarding which partition type to use - GPT or MBR. I used GPT and so far so good in Win 7. It did take quite a long time 3+ hrs to install Win 7 on a new drive - I installed a 500GB EVO (not pro). The original SSD is stashed for later if needed. Win 8.1 was ok but I prefer Win 7. There also seems to be more functionality (useful software) vs the bloatware that came with 8.1. The other problems such as wireless disconnects and the Lenovo EMC connector (runaway discovery.exe banging on the network) are also not present. Win7 seems to be better thought out from an implementation perspective.

Re: Downgrade to Win 7 Pro from Win 8.1 Pro

Hi Dizz buster,

Thank you for replying back. Sorry for delay in reply.

The GPT partition will be more compatible with Windows 8 OS as it will be using UEFI Option in BIOS, however if you want to downgrade the Windows 8 to Windows 7, I suggest you to change the GPT partition to MBR partition. As Windows 7 will work more compatible with MBR partition.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Re: Downgrade to Win 7 Pro from Win 8.1 Pro

Hermanth - Well I am not going to reinstall windows 7 at this point. I am gong to leave it using the GPT partition. The main reason is the recovery process takes too darn long. As I stated in my last post I am currently using the GPT partition type and so far no issues.
