As was described in previous threads. The combo audio port on newer Thinkpads is 3.5mm TRRS and does not accept standard external mics, per:
A splitter was suggested like:
However, this only solves half of the problem. The other half is that the impedance is too low on most external lav mics and the Conexant sound card switches back to Internal mic when you plug in the low impedance mic.
So my question is, have any Thinkpad users with combo audio port found a lav mic that has the right impedance such that the sound card recognizes it as a mic?
One suggestion was to buy a power source for the mic. Can anyone confirm that this works?:
Thanks for your help. This is so frustrating! I can't believe they didn't accomodate this into a $2,000 laptop! Lame.

This one has been verified to work with ThinkPads.
EDIT: I found that on the NotbookReviews forums where a user claims to have had success with one on his T410.
