FDE on T410i issues

Hello

i have Lenovo T410i with HGST 500GB SATA (HTS725050A7E630 on hitachi site says its supports Self-encrypting for data security). And this HDD cames with notebook.

I would like to enable FDE feature.

From lenovo support (https://support.lenovo.com/lt/en/downloads/migr-68369) site i downloaded:

ThinkPad BIOS Setup Menu Extension Utility for the Resetting
                   the Cryptographic Key and the Erasing the Solid State Drive

 i make a bootable cd, boot notebook, run this utility.

by instructions:

- To enable the menu,
           drvmenu -e

 and after reboot in BIOS i expected a new option in security menu:

5. Select the Disk Encryption HDD menu.

 but theres no Disk Encryption HDD option in BIOS.

Any comments?

Thanks and sorry for my english.

Re: FDE on T410i issues

SOME Z7k500 models support encryption, but not the model you list.  The last character in the model is "0", which means "no encryption".  This is from the HGST site:

HTS725050A7E630 = 500GB, SATA 6Gb/s

H = HGST

T = Travelstar

S = Standard (vs E for Enhanced Availability)

72 = 7200 RPM

50 = Full capacity — 500GB 50 = Capacity this model, 50 = 500GB (32 = 320GB, 25 = 250GB)

A = Generation code 7 = 7mm z-height

E6 = SATA 6Gb/s with 512 emulation

3 = 32MB cache

0 = No encryption (1 = Bulk data encryption, 5 = TCG Opal Encryption
