Firmware update to Samsung PM961 512GB NVMe SSD

Hello everyone,

I see there is an updated firmware for Samsung PM961 512GB NVMe SSD model "MZVLW512". Here is the link: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-T-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-...

Does anyone know whether this update is valid for "SAMSUNG MZVLW512HMJP-000L7"?

I ask this because I tried to install this update but failed. This updater said there is no update firmware for this SSD. Currently, the firmware of this SSD is "5L7QCXY7".

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

CnZhx

Re: Firmware update to Samsung PM961 512GB NVMe SSD

I have a T470p running 64-bit Windows 8.1 (by means of wufuc), and that Lenovo utility correctly recognized my 512GB Samsung PM961 (MZVLW512HMJP-000L7), reporting no new firmware available. Current firmware version is 7L7Q.

Thanks JNavas, maybe your firmware is 7L7Q out of factory?

Re: Firmware update to Samsung PM961 512GB NVMe SSD

It's certainly possible that my SSD came with that firmware. It's also possible that you have essentially the same version—5L and 7L might refer to i5 and i7 processors respectively, with 7Q the firmware version. Regardless, I wouldn't worry about it unless you are experiencing some issue—Samsung firmware has been stable for years.

Re: Firmware update to Samsung PM961 512GB NVMe SSD

Thanks, John.

But 5L and 7L might NOT refer to i5 and i7 processors respectively because I have an i7-7600u yet the firmware is "5L7QCXY7".

Anyway, as you said, it is probably not a big deal as I experienced no problem with the SSD.
