Gobi 2000 Will Not Turn On

For some reason I cannot get my Gobi 2000 to turn on. GPS works fine with it and Windows has no problem detecting the device, it is also enabled in BIOS.

Re: Gobi 2000 Will Not Turn On

Well it appears the T510 has a defective BIOS implementation.

Re: Gobi 2000 Will Not Turn On

Hi JDay!

When you say you can't get it to turn on, what exactly do you mean? It doesn't appear in the Fn-F5 list?

Why does the fact that the GOBI 2000 is not in the T61p whitelest make you think that the T510 has a defective BIOS implementation?

It is in the list, however clicking the button to turn it on does nothing. That thread was just one example, however it appears to be the same problem that I am having (BIOS telling card to shutoff). Mobile Broadband is even saying that the device is disabled in hardware (which it is not).

Re: Gobi 2000 Will Not Turn On

The GOBI 2000 is in the T510 whitelist, but it must be a Lenovo part with a Lenovo FRU sticker. Is your GOBI 2000 a Lenovo part?

The GOBI 2000 is not in the T61p whitelist, hence the workaround in the thread you linked to.

Yes, I ordered it with my T510, and I know that it is not in the T61p whitelist. However, the T61p in that thread had a custom firmware loaded on it that removed the whitelist and it had the exact same problem as my T510 (Device is currently disabled by hardware. Error QE105) when infact it is enabled in hardware (i.e. The BIOS is causing this to happen). The fix for that was to disable the pin that receives the shutoff command from the BIOS.

Re: Gobi 2000 Will Not Turn On

Well I got it to turn on by reflashing my BIOS and resetting it to defaults. Only now I cannot get a list of available WWAN providers in Access Connections.

Re: Gobi 2000 Will Not Turn On

Hi JDay!

Try setting the default firmware to the carrier of your choice (use generic if not in the list):

Hope this helps!
