HDMI output not working

2019-05-28, 14:16 PM

Hello,

I just purchased this model, Lenovo T480, and I'm trying to connect a second monitor through the HDMI port.

I'm using a VGA cable with a VGA to HDMI adapter.
When I connect the HDMI to the laptop, the laptop screen blinks, the monitor blinks, but then the monitor goes black, and the laptop stays as if nothing happened. No notifications, no warnings, no resolution changes.
I tried to go to the display setup and manually ask to identify a second monitor, but it says ther's no monitor to be identified.

Monitor, Cable and Adapter work well. I plug this exact setup to my desktop PC, and works perfectly.

Thank you

Sounds to me like the HDMI to VGA converter is not getting enough power from your laptop. Maybe try plugging in the T480 and setting it to a maximum performance power profile? Or find a more efficient converter?

(This link delves into this issue: https://www.stc-cable.com/news/how-to-troubleshoot-hdmi-to-vga-video-convert-adapter-common-faults  )

Good luck!

Thank you, but that didn't work :(
The laptop is plugged in, changed to best performance energy setting, and now it recognizes that there is a second monitor, it even gets the monitor's model, and it shows up in the display settings window, but my monitor is still black, as if it was not receiving signal
About a possible change in my HDMI/VGI adapter... Is this expected, since it works fine on my desktop?

Thank you

Can anyone else here advise on, or test, HDMI -> VGA adapters with a T480?

Same problem here with a brand new T590. I love the machine. Just can't believe that, here in 2019, I can't push both an HDMI and a DVI output with a state-of-the-art laptop.

Getting the same issue on my T480.

Cable being used is a HDMI to DVI cable. Definately not the monitor or cable either, tested it with another PC.

Swapping the cable and using a straight HDMI to HDMI cable seems to work fine instead?

I hope Lenovo have a fix in the works for this.

I have a T480S  When watching video through my HDMI to TV then the TV screen goes black for a second or 2 then comes right back.  I also noticed the computer screen remains on and never goes black.  Any ideas would be much appreciated.  Not sure it matters but I am using VLC media player.
