Has T480 lost battery host-swap feature?

2019-10-08, 4:19 AM

When I first bought this laptop around begining June this year, I was able to slide off the external 61++ (72Whr) battery and the laptop would seamlessly use the internal battery. A few months later I bought an extra 61 (24Whr) battery which I can casually swap between the two. Lately though I only had the 61++ inserted, and left the 61 lying around mid-charge.

Last night, because of a whole day out, the 61++ battery was near depletion, so I pulled it out and inserted the 61 battery. When I flipped the laptop over again, I realise the laptop was powered off (not even sleep blinkers), it booted up whole, and the Windows event log complaint of a sudden active battery loss and unexpected system restart.

In the last month I've probably gone through two BIOS updates; could that be the culprit? Has anybody else experienced this problem after BIOS update? Or has it (unlikely) got something to do with the new version of Lenovo's Vantage?
