Re: Has the T430 fan issue been fixed?

Hello all,

I am thinking of selling my Macbook Pro and getting a T430, but I am a little concerned with the fan issue being reported here in the forums. Has the problem been fixed in the newer models? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Believe it or not, I don't see any fan issues on my T430. I hear nearly no sound emitting from the fan unless I place my ears on the air outlet. Mine is very silent indeed.

no it has not been fixed yet. First level on the fan is 3200 RPM, which is just to high - I think it is a matter of BIOS fixing - Come on lenovo, what is going on?

Oh god, I so want to buy this laptop, but I don't want to buy a faulty one. :smileysad:

If you ask different people you will probably get different answers,  but mine T430 is quiet but not silent. After downloading the free software tpfanControl, then it is literally silent.

Why you selling your macbook pro?

When not using an external display and on integrated only mine is also quite silent (only while using TPfancontrol) That changes when discrete is activated. But still the first level for the fan is not okay at all !
Im using a mSATA SSD and HDD only for backup.

How are and for what are you going to use it for ?

Re: Has the T430 fan issue been fixed?

The last generation had the first fan level at 1900RPM, which IMO was perfectly fine in terms of fan speed scaling. Dunno why Lenovo engineering decided to bungle it up this generation.

W530: 3940XM, K2000M, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD + 2TB HDD + 1TB SD, FHD (94 Hz OC) & MB168B+
X61T: L7500, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, XGA screen, Ultrabase
X200s: SL9400, 6GB RAM, 64GB SD card, WXGA+ screen

My Mac is 3 years old, and is getting slow. I am a grad student in computational biology, so use it for programming mostly. I am still thinking of buying one and see how bad it is, I can always return it if I don't like it, right?

tpfancontrol just delay when the fan turns on, once the fan comes on still make that horrible high pitch noise.

Re: Has the T430 fan issue been fixed?

I'm in the same situation, a year ago I purchased a T420 and I was very pleased as the notebook was very quietly most of the time. My notebook was stolen a week ago (:smileysad:) and I'm looking for a replacement. As I understand not everybody is suffering this problem of whining fan,  have any idea  if this problem could be associated to only some particular models??. For example, this problem affects both the models with integrated & dedicated graphics (as far as I understand the dedicated GPU can generate lots of extra heat inside the machine that needs to be dissipated)??

Best Regards

Luis
