How can I duplicate my screen to an external monitor and get a 1920 x 1080 resolution?

Question

I have the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and am unable to get to 1920 x 1080 (for the external monitor). The max I can go currently is 1600 x 900.

Any suggestions on how I would be able to achieve this? Dual (external?) videocards? Any recommendations?

The external monitor is a Samsung Central Station (23") and connects to the laptop wirelessly via UWB.

Answer

The answer below is based on our community user comment.

You will not be able to duplicate your screen to 1920x 1080 resolution.

This is because the resolution set in duplicating screens is limited to the maximum resolution of the laptop which, in this case, is 1600 x 900.

In order to get 1080p output, you have to select Projector only so that all of the display is only visible on the external monitor, letting you get all of that resolution all the way up to 2560 x 1600.

(In T410, you can get this screen by pressing Fn+F7)
