INACCESSIBLE SECURE BOOT T470 & BOOT ORDER

2018-08-09, 0:08 AM

Hello.

I've been trying to change boot order in the lenovo thinkpad t470 but from the bios start-up utility, this boot order has been presented as inaccessible and is inactive. The cursor is inactive here. I have not been able to change the UEFI to both UEFI and Legacy. I have tried unchecking the safe boot from the system configuration in the light that safe boot was similar to secure boot to no avail. Still after doing this, secure boot from the bios start-up showed that secure boot was still on.

I am trying to install Ubuntu 18.04 anyways. If anyone has a solution to the first issues or generally how to install Ubuntu in the thinkpad t470, please feel free to assist.

Thanks.

Hello and welcome,

I can't say why those settings are not accessible.  Perhaps you have a password set?

Can you access the "live" boot menu by pressing F12 after a cold shutdown/startup or restart?  I'd guess not based on the other inaccessible settings.  If you can access the on-the-fly boot menu and select your install flash drive do so. Ubuntu should install in UEFI-only mode w/secure boot ON.  (If you've prepared your media correctly - by extracting the ISO contents to a FAT32 flash drive)

I have a video clip that could explain my words better. If you have an email or a portal through which I could send this, it could be great

No.. I have not set any passwords to the bios.

The laptop has a warranty of 830 days down from 3 years...

And t470 thinkpad was released last year.

Could this be a factory setting?

Could this be reversed if it is a factory setting?

I had the video but compression tools and apps are not doing me  the trick.

http://dailylinuxuser.com/2018/01/how-to-fix-your-bios-after-installing-ubuntu-17-10-on-a-lenovo-laptop.html

This link to the website, provides a solution to a problem I think I'm experiencing though it approaches the systems using Ubuntu. I am currently on the pre-installed Windows 10.

I was wondering if you could try and use the concept in it to come up with a solution for the windows side.

Unless you actually installed 17.10 it's unlikely you're facing the same problem.

Back to your OP: you said "The cursor is inactive here."   Does that mean you can't navigate the BIOS menus? Do the arrow keys work?

You didn't answer my question as to whether F12 gets you to the boot menu.

I'm afraid I can't offer any other suggestions.  Perhaps others here will have something to add.

B/c I forgot my bios supervisor password, I think the best way shall be flashing the cmos eprom I think in the motherboard since replacing it is more expensive. Do you recommend the manual flashing?
