Intel 4965AGN MM1 (FRU 42T0865) not "authorized" to work with T500

2011-04-27, 13:50 PM

Hello!

I tried to replace 5100AGN with 4965AGN and I got error 1802 at boot (unauthorized network card). Since it's Lenovo part from now obsolete T61 I thougt there should be no problem plugging it into T500. Any way to overcome this ... problem?

Thanks,

b.

Hi sponka,

Per lenovo parts list, the said card is not part of whitelisted cards. Only lenovo approved Intel 5100, 5300, 5350 and ThinkPad b/g are compatible:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-71037.html#6

Hope it helps.

the only way to overcome this would be to have a modified bios with no whitelist, however this will void the warranty on your machine and is not supported by Lenovo.

Thanks for explanation.

I thought whitelist is only limitation. OTOH, I decided to do that because of this:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-77063

Down there stands:

End of support for the following adapters:

  • Intel WiFi Link 5100
  • Intel WiFi Link 5150
  • Intel WiFi Link 5300
And to my surprise 3945 and 4965 are still supported.
Pardon me but I realy have to say -- that suck!
Cheers,
b.
PS: my T500 is 2056-VL1, not on the list. And to be sure -- even if I got 6300 i can't be sure it will work before I plug it? By default it shouldn't :(
